DMCH observes World Anaesthesia Day

The World Anaesthesia Day was celebrated by anaesthesiologists of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital and the Hero DMC Heart Institute at a function organised by the Anaesthesia Department, DMCH, here today. The day was celebrated in the memory of Dr William T.G. Morton, who used ether for pain relief in surgery on October 16, 1846, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA.

Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal, DMCH, was chief guest on the occasion. A tribute was paid to forefathers of anaesthesiology in a lecture delivered by Prof Tej K. Kaul, Head, Department of Anaesthesiology, DMCH.

He marvelled at advances made by the speciality and highlighted the historical data, dates and contributions by masters of profession who dedicated themselves for the uplift of anaesthesiology.

He dwelled upon the role the anaesthesiologists were playing in specialised areas like critical care, resuscitation and trauma care and said the role of the anaesthesiologists was expanding fast outside operation theatres.

Dr Anurag Tiwari, Senior Resident, Department of Anaesthesiology, spoke about ‘day care anaesthesia challenges and improvement’. Dr S.C. Ahuja spoke on the indispensability of an anesthesiologist in the most advanced to minor surgeries. He applauded the work done by the Anaesthesiology Department and appreciated their contribution in making the subject as one of the most sought after speciality amongst upcoming graduates of today.

TT meet from today

Ludhiana, October 16
The stage is set for the CBSE Cluster XII Table Tennis Championship which begins at the Alpine International Senior Secondary School, Ferozepore Road branch, Ludhiana, tomorrow. More than 50 teams consisting of around 200 paddlers from Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir are expected to take part in this four-day meet.

According to Ms Rajeshwari Dhir, Principal of the school, competition in the individual as well as team events in the u-14, u-16 and u-19 years categories for boys and girls will be held during the championship and the matches will be conducted according to the latest rules laid down by the Table Tennis Federation of India. The accommodation arrangements for the participants have been made on the school campus, Ms Dhir informed.

Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor, Ludhiana, will inaugurate the championship on October 17 at 10 am and Mr Yograj Sachdeva, Regional Officer, Central Board of Secondary Education, Chandigarh, will be the chief guest on the concluding day, October 20.
