Over 350 examined at medical camp

SAS Nagar, September 29
A free medical camp was inaugurated at Cheema Medical Complex in Phase IV here today by the OSD to Punjab Chief Minister, Mrs Lakhwinder Kaur Garcha.

Several specialists examined around 350 patients at the camp. The doctors included a medical and heart specialist, orthopaedician, general/laparoscopic surgeon, neurosurgeon, child specialist, eye specialist, urologist, plastic surgeon, gynaecologist and dental surgeon.

A discount was given on various laboratory tests besides ultrasound and ECG examination. The blood sugar and haemoglobin tests were conducted free of cost. Dr B.S. Cheema, Director of the hospital, said patients booked for surgery would be given a discount of 40 per cent.

Dr Cheema said such camps would become a regular feature to screen people for various diseases and guide them at an early stage before the disease caused permanent damage.

He said the hospital would soon start dialysis and lithotripsy (breaking up stones with laser) facilities.

Panchkula GH to be opened in Oct

Panchkula, September 29
The newly constructed building of General Hospital Sector 6, will be inaugurated in October.

The Union Health Minister, Mr Shatrughan Sinha is being approached for its inauguration.

This was stated by Dr M.L. Ranga, State Health Minister, here today. He was speaking after the prize distribution function of the State Lawn Tennis Championship. He said he would meet Mr Sinha in Chandigarh tomorrow to request him for giving an early date for the inauguration.

It may be noted that this 100-bed building has been constructed at a cost of Rs 4 crore by the Haryana Urban Development Authority and the state government.

A similar amount has been spent on creating infrastructure in this hospital.

Suraj Bhan is ‘Mr Inter Club’

Bon Sante, a body-building training centre, bagged the overall championship in the third Inter-Club Body-Building Championship held at the DAV College auditorium, Sector 10, here today. The one day meet was organised by the Chandigarh Amateur Body-Building Association. Suraj Bhan of Bon Sante was declared the ‘Mr Inter club’, Chandigarh.

The results are: below 55 kg: Shabir Ali 1, Rakesh Kumar 2 and Meiraba Meitei 3. Below 60 kg: Balvinder Singh 1, Partap 2 and Sandeep Sharma 3. Below 65 kg: Suresh Saini 1, Harsh 2 and Sawraj 3. Below 70 kg: Suraj Bhan 1, Ajay 2 and Love Preet 3. Below 75 kg: Saurav 1, Rajnish Kumar 2 and Vishal Kumar 3. Above 75 kg: Rahul 1, Kailash Chand 2 and Joginder 3.

Cricket meet: Panchkula will take on Chandigarh in their opening tie of the Pataudi Trophy in the Haryana Inter District Cricket Tournament to be played at Nagal village, near Barwala, on Monday.

Haryana Ranji player Girish Bhanot will lead the 16-member squad. The team is: Inderjeet Saini, Vivek Walia, Gaurav Sood, Arvind Rawat, Vishal Sahni, Umesh Kalra, Sunny Sharma, Manav Asopa, Rajinder Singh, Nitin Rathee, Mayur Sharma, Vishal Gupta, Ravi Shanker, Balwinder Singh and Pankaj.

Rain disappoints big-screen buffs

Chandigarh, September 29
The long wait to witness Indian batting live on the big screen turned futile when rain played the spoilsport in the final of the ICC trophy final in Colombo. The rain forced the organisers to abandon the match.

The local Kiran Theatre had made arrangements for the screening of the final. Many hotels and restaurants with provision of large-sized screen had also made arrangements for the screening of the match.

According to the theatre management, the company had booked all four shows from 12 noon till the last show for the match. But the select crowd got disappointed when the match was abandoned.
