New Delhi, September 28
The NCERT today declared the results of this year’s National Talent Search (NTS) Examination, conducted earlier this year. A total of 1,000 students have been declared successful.
Of the total students selected for the scholarship, 150 students belong to Scheduled Castes and 75 are from the Scheduled Tribes category. The remaining 775 students belong to the general category.
The NTSE scholarship is aimed at identifying talent at the Class X level and to nurture the students by providing financial assistance in the form of monthly scholarship and annual book grant.
This year's national-level written examination was conducted at 33 centres across the country by the NCERT. A total of 3,847 candidates had appeared in the examination out of which 1,573 qualified for the interview conducted by 22 interview boards at 15 centres in the country. On the basis of the written examination and the interview that followed 1000 students have been declared eligible for the scholarship.
The NTS awardees continue to receive the scholarship up to the Ph.D level for pursuing their education in basic sciences and social sciences and up to the second-degree level if they decide to go in for professional courses like medicine, management and engineering. The main objective of the NTS scheme is to contribute to nurturing talent, developing scientific temper and taking special care of the gifted.
The scheme has undergone a change over the years and is now no longer confined to basic sciences as it has been extended to social sciences, engineering, medicine and management courses.
The list of successful candidates can be accessed at NCERT's website - ncert.nic.in. The information on the examination is also available at NCERT's round-the-clock helpline on telephone number 9622022044.
