Students learn art of interview

Ludhiana, September 20
Dr H.S. Deol, eminent academician, administrator and an former member of the PPSC, delivered a lecture on ‘How to handle interviews’ to the students of MBA, MCA, and BBA at the Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Management and Technology (GGNIMT).

Dr Deol enumerated various tips for effectively giving an interview like general awareness, personal grooming, body language, presence of mind, etc. He guided the students on how to tackle complex questions and ticklish situations during an interview.

He narrated many humorous and witty incidents form his personal experience that made the interaction more interesting and a memorable one.

On the contrary, Dr Deol highlighted the ugly face of social issues also like bribery that suppres the qualities of competent candidates. But he boosted the morale of the students by advising them to be committed and sincere to their work to be a winner and to retain the edge, whatever are the circumstances. Dr Deol concluded his lecture by quoting Swami Vivekanand, “Take upon ideas and make it an essential part of your life. Think of it, dream if it, work on it and it will surely lead you to success.”

The lecture was followed by a question-answer session. Finally, a workshop on mock interview was conducted by Dr Deol and Dr Kumar, retired HoD, Department of Computer Sciences, PAU, which analysed their skills and gave them more tips on how to handle interview more effectively in the future.

The Director, Mr Kuldip Singh, and the coordinator, Mr G.S. Dua, GGNIMT, were also present. They thanked and honoured the guest for sharing his views with the students.

A seminar on e-commerce & international trade

A seminar on e-commerce and international trade was organised by the Department of Economics in Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, today.

In her welcome speech, the Principal, Mrs Charanjit Mahal, projected on the need to expand the horizons of the students beyond the bounds of college curriculum.

Dr Dhaliwal, a professor of economics at Punjab Agricultural University, delivered a lecture on the subject of international trade. He highlighted various objectives, functions and implications of the World Trade Organisation. Slides, every aspect of the subject were put up before the audience, who took a keen interest in the lecture and raised plenty of queries.

The next lecture was delivered by Dr Geeta Bansal, a professor at Panjab University, Chandigarh. She opened up the discussion on the subject of ‘e-commerce’ and highlighted various peripheral aspects.

In the afternoon session, Dr Vaidya, a professor of commerce at Panjab University, Chandigarh, discussed the professional and practical implications of the World Trade Organisation and pinpointed various clauses and agreements.

Students participate in contests

Several competitions were organised at Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, this morning by the Punjab School Education Board.

Results were as under:

Original writing contest: Gurpreet Kaur (Harkrishan Public School, Dhaba Road) 1, Rajbir Kaur (Government Senior Secondary School, Tharike) 2, and Navneet Kaur (Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Jawahar Nagar) 3.

Declamation contest: Maninder Kaur (Government Secondary School, Tharike) 1, Saloni Sharma (Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk) 2, and Aman Sharma (R.S. Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar) 3.

Folk songs competition: Gurlel Akhtar (Khalsa Girls High School, Gujjar Khan) 1, Kamaljit Kaur (Government Girls Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar) 2, and Ankush Sharma (R.S. Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar) 3.

Mr Bachittar Singh, District Education Officer, was the chief guest. Sukhjit Singh Albela, Kanwal Walia, Tarsem Lalton, Sukhwinder Sukhi and Subhash Kumar were the judges.

The Principal of the school, Ms Sudesh Walia, thanked the participating teams and the judges. A cultural programme was also organised.
