In less than three days after “Chandigarh Tribune” highlighted the problem faced by motorists in crossing the dilapidated Ghaggar bridge on the Panchkula-Naraingarh highway, the Building and Roads Wing of the Haryana Public Works Department (HPWD) today started repairing its surface.

A visit to the site revealed that the department had pressed over 15 labourers and three vehicles, including a road-roller, in repairing the damaged parts of the bridge besides laying layers of bitumen over the surface after filling potholes with gravel. Layer of sand, that had accumulated on either sides of the bridge, had also been removed.

Major and minor repair works were also being done on various other main and link roads in parts of the area besides patch-work on all roads that were damaged during the recent rains.

The HPWD (B and R) authorities said the monsoon had worn off the wearing coat of the surface of the bridge resulting in potholes.
