Irked by cuts, patients move NHRC
Tribune News Service

New Delhi, September 18
Irked by what they allege are “cuts in medical facilities”, patients have filed a complaint against a charitable hospital in Sarai Kale Khan with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).

The patients have alleged that the hospital management, which is being run by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has failed to provide them the adequate and complete medical facilities. One complainant stated that the OPD patients at Guru Harkrishan Hospital (Bala Sahib) used to get medicines for four to five days which are now being sanctioned only on a daily basis, causing great inconvenience to patients, especially senior citizens.

However, the DSGMC general-secretary, Mr Bhajan Singh Walia, denied the charges, describing them as baseless. Referring to the allegation that work had been stopped on an under-construction morgue and elevator facility, he said that the work on the elevator has not begun because the hospital building has to be ultimately demolished as a new building in its immediate vicinity is already under construction.

He added that the hospital did not require any morgue. Mr Walia also denied patients’ charges that the hospital was being run without any medical superintendent. He pointed out that the medical superintendent of the had been suspended on charge of suspected malpractices. He said interim arrangements for his office have already been made.

As for the cuts in medicinal sanctions, Mr Walia denied interference in medical administration, saying that the doctors were at liberty to take medical decisions on their own.
