NSS awareness camp

Ludhiana, September 17
An NSS awareness camp, besides a vanmahotsav function was organised recently by staff and students of the R&D Polytechnic Centre for Bicycle and Sewing Machine, Focal Point, Ludhiana. Mr J.S. Randhawa was the chief guest and Mr J.S. Rahi, Assistant Director, Youth Services, presided over the function.

Mr J.S. Rahi explained aims and programme of the NSS. The main aim of the scheme is to involve college students in social service activists, including tree plantation, blood donation, and immunisation, to create awareness in society. Mr B.S. Sangha, Principal and Mr Harbider Singh Adviser of the centre, advised the students to maintain discipline and punctuality and respect teachers for being successful in life. A culture programme prepared by Mr A.S. Sidhu and Mr B.S. Brar was presented by the students.

The chief guest congratulated the staff and the students for organising the camp. He emphasised on the need to conserve energy, water and electricity and recommended the use of bicycle for pollution-free environment and maintaining good health. Later, the tree-plantation programme was held.

Language contests for students

The District Language Department held a district-level poetry-recitation and essay-writing competitions in Punjabi Bhavan here recently. Students of various schools here took part in these.

In the Critic of Hindi Literature competition, Karuna Khanna of DAV Public School won the first prize, while Disha Kapoor of BVM Senior Secondary School stood second. Meenakshi De of the PAU Government Model Senior Secondary School won the third prize.

Dalpreet Singh of BVM bagged the first position in the essay-writing competition. Saloni Sharma of the Bharat Nagar Government Senior Secondary School won the second prize and Jasmeet Singh of Baba Ishar Singh Public School stood third.

In the story-writing competition, Namrata of DAV Public School won the first prize. Jaspreet Kaur of Ramgarhia Government Senior Secondary School and Harpreet Kaur of the PAU Government Senior Secondary School were declared second and third, respectively.

In the poetry-recitation competition, the first prize was won by Vanita of BVM Senior Secondary School. The second and third prizes went to Anantdeep of DAV Public School and Guler Akhtar of Guru Nanak High School (Gujarkhan), respectively.
