Janmashtami functions in schools

Spring Dale Public School, Ludhiana, celebrated Janmashtami with a great deal of enthusiasm, devotion and religious fervour here today. The school premises were beautifully decorated on the occasion.

The function started with a devotional song Virdadawan Bihari, Lord Krishna’s birthday song. Jagtaran Singh of class IX delivered a speech in English and described various aspects related to the life of Lord Krishna. Navneet Makkar of Class X compared the life of Lord Krishna and Lord Rama, and their preachings.

A dance on Yashoda was presented by girls of Class IX and X. Parul of class II played the role of Radha and Ayushmen of Class VI acted as Krishna. Anita, Nidhi, and Meena Chooni along with staff members and students recited a bhajan, marking the end of the celebrations.

Founder principal/director of the school, Mrs Avinash Kaur Walia, during her speech spoke of many incidents related to Lord Krishna’s life and spoke of his teachings.

SKN Model School started the Janmashtami celebrations with an address by the principal, Mr K.D. Arora. He asked them to do their tasks without any desire for rewards. Students of Class VII presented a chorus “Kanha Tere Darbar Mein”. In addition, they sang “sun lai sadi gal Yashoda”.

Students of middle and senior sections of Green Land Senior Secondary Public School here performed a variety of items on Janmashtami this morning. An English play Mirabai was staged Rasleela was performed and students recited a number of hymns in praise of Lord Krishna.

Exhibition opened at Satluj Club

‘Expressions’, a two-day exhibition of paintings depicting the beauty of the nature was inaugurated at Satluj Club here today.

Ms Kanika Dhanda and Ms Shweta Tripathi, the two young city-based artists have well explored their talent in the form of different paintings. These include the murals, emboss, Rajasthani and abstract paintings.

In majority of their painting, Kanika and Shweta have tried to propagate the rich Punjabi culture, which has been evading day by day. The modern art, sand paintings, ceramic works and papier mache works were appreciated by the visitors. The exhibition was inaugurated by Mr S.K. Sharma, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation.
