24-bed gynae ward for General Hospital
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, August 30
If waiting in unending queues for private rooms in government health institutes is too much for you, or you find private nursing homes and laboratories too expensive, here is good news for you. The UT Health Department has decided to set up another gynae ward in Sector 16 General Hospital.

According to sources in the Sector 16 hospital, modalities were being worked out by the authorities for the setting up the ward.

Though authorities were not willing to divulge much, sources confirm that the project had been cleared and the cost of construction was being worked out. The ward would have 24 beds and would be constructed over the labour room.

The decision to set up another gynae ward is significant as at present there was just one ward with capacity of accommodating about 18 to 20 patients. The attendents, as a result, were being forced to sit with their backs resting against the corridors walls.

This was not all. For the convenience of the attendents, a shelter was also being constructed. Sources added that keeping in view the need for maintaining complete hygiene, toilet facility was also being provided on the terrace.

Moreover, a canteen would also be set up next to the ward so that the attendents were not forced to stay away from the patients for long.

The Director Health Services, Dr Rameshwar Chander, when contacted, said another shelter too would be constructed in the hospital for the OPD patients. The shelter, to be constructed in the ENT OPD block near the main gate, would also be useful for the attendents of patients admitted to other wards. The cost of this project was also being worked out.

A committee room was also being set up in front of the DHS room. As per Dr Chander, the room would have a capacity of accommodating 20 persons. All three projects were expected to be through by the end of this year.
