Team MRF for Japan Rally
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, August 27
Encouraged by the surprise surge of MRF’s New Zealand driver, Stuart Warren in the Rally of Rotorua (New Zealand), the third round of the APRC (Asia Pacific Rally Championship), team MRF have decided to despatch their two-car Mitsubishi EVO7 team for the rally of Kokkaido, Japan, scheduled to be held from September 5 to 8.

Originally, Japan was not on the MRF’s itinerary for APRC 2002. Another reason that led MRF to the Japanese rally is the development of new tyres, now under test in Australia, which the Team feel will give their drivers an edge on the Japanese terrain. Stuart’s Group N (unmodified cars)

victory in New Zealand was historic for the company as this was MRF’s first overseas win in an arena that has been dominated by tyre giants like Pirelli and Michelin in this region.

Stuart Warren and co-driver Darryl Judd, along with V Naren Kumar and his co-driver D Ram, will represent Team MRF.

The Group N category reaches a very interesting phase of APRC 2002. Having won the first round at Canberra, Australia, overall and in the Group N, and the Group N in New Caledonia, Nico Caldarola of Italy is leaving little to chance in Japan after being surpassed by relatively unknown driver Stuart Warren of Team MRF in Rotorua, New Zealand.

Nico is leading Group N Championships with 42 points after three rounds of the APRC 2002. Stuart is second with 24 points from only two rounds.

The organisers have confirmed a record 61 entries for the rally of Hokkaido, which is a candidate for the World Rally Championship 2003. The Japanese round will be followed by rounds in China and Thailand for the FIA Asia Pacific Rally Championship.
