Army kills 8 militants
New Delhi, August 18
A major infiltration bid from across the Line of Control was foiled by the Indian Army when eight militants were killed last night at Chowkibal, near the border district of Kupwara. An Army spokesman said here that an infiltration attempt was made under cover of heavy artillery and mortar firing by Pakistani forces. This was the first major infiltration bid in over a month. The United Jehad Council, a militant organisation based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), has threatened to disrupt the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. TNS
