Enhanced prize money for bowling event New Delhi, August 18 With four categories to compete in, increased prize money, a total of 26 cities under its scope and the winner set to represent India at the international competition, the ColorPlus Championships promise to make bowling a truly serious sport, providing mega challenge and entertainment spanning 45 days of action. The Championships are being held under the aegis of the Bowling Federation of India (FBI) and the event is marketed and managed by the International Management Group (IMG) and the Mark McCormack Group of Companies. BFI president Devender Singh, IAS said, “The enthusiastic response from players and bowling centres has encouraged us to reach out to masses in the third edition. The first National Corporate Bowling Championship and the ColorPlus Open Championship for men and women will be conducted simultaneously with the National Bowling Championships”. Mr Devender Singh said bowlers would play the first round of six games each in 26 cities. The winners from the satellite cities will then come to Bangalore for the challenge round. The technical guidance will be provided by the World Tenpin Bowling Association with acclaimed coaches from Canada, Malaysia and Venezuela guiding the players. To encourage enthusiasts in the open category, anyone above 15 years of age can enter as many number of times as they want and their best scores will be finally considered. The top eight bowlers from the qualifiers would then play eight games and the winner will be adjudged the ColorPlus Open Winner for that city. The Corporate Teams will comprise two members each, and will bowl a total of four games (two by each participant). The top two teams from each city would compete for the National Corporate Team crown and the finals will be played at Bangalore. In the 2000 championship, Ramesh Rawat of Chennai was crowned the men’s champion while Mohan Lal of Delhi finished as runner-up. In 2001, Samir Jain won the title while Mohan Lal once again had to contend with the second place. In the women’s section in 2000, Jhama Badaini of Bombay won the title while Anuradha Sarda of Delhi took the second place. In 2001, Sabeena Salim of Chennai won the title while Anuradha Sarda of New Delhi retained her second position. |

Puneet powers Ramjas School to victory New Delhi, August 18 Meera Model School, electing to bat, scored 131 for 9 in the stipulated 30 overs. Ankush Kumar (27) and Mukul Kumar (21) were their top scorers while Ram Gill struck deadly bowling form to claim two wickets for 25 runs. In reply, Ramjas School raced to 133 for one in just 13.1 overs. Puneet Bishth lashed out at the Meera Model School bowling attack to make a quickfire 68, which contained nine fours and three sixes. Rahul Yadav blasted an unbeaten 40 with the help of six fours. Puneet Bisth was declared the Man of the Match. His swashbuckling knock stunned the crowd. The tournament was inaugurated by Delhi and District Cricket Association general secretary S P Bansal. Vivekanand Park opens New Delhi, August 18 Paying tributes to Swami Vivekanand, Mr Jagmohan congratulated the NDMC for developing the park in honour of Swami Vivekanand. Recalling the ideals of the great thinker, Mr Jagmohan said that he encouraged the youth of India by strengthening their imaginative powers with intelligence and a spirit for reforms, which was not time-bound but a continuous exercise. His messages were not for any particular religion or society but were meant for the whole mankind. He was a true follower of humanity. Mr Jagmohan further announced that an amount of Rs 2 crore had been earmarked for the establishment of LNJP Memorial Library in Gole Market. The NDMC would construct and develop a library in a piece of land, which will be allotted by the Ministry of Urban Development to the NDMC. He also informed that his ministry had opened a cultural centre in almost each place of interest from Badrinath to Kanyakumari. He assured government servants that the Government of India was restoring the grant of LTC so that employees could see these places as per their convenience. S. C. Ahuja, the sculptor who made the statue of Swami Vivekanand, was also felicitated by Mr Jagmohan on this occasion. Mr Subhash Sharma, Chairman, NDMC, welcoming the guests said the NDMC was developing parks and gardens after the name of freedom fighters and renowned persons so that the citizens, particularly the young generation, may know all about our national heroes. He further said that though the civic body realised its responsibility for developing such parks in its colonies but on the other hand it also expected cooperation from the residents towards maintenance and cleanliness of these park and gardens. He also paid his tributes to the great saint and philosopher, Swami Vivekanand. Presiding over the function, the area MLA and Vice-Chairperson, NDMC, Mr Ram Bhaj, recalled the works done by Swami Vivekanand for improvement of the society. He said that earlier two parks had been renamed after freedom fighters, one at Lodhi Colony after the name of Veer Savarkar and the other at Sarojini Nagar itself in the name of Dr Keshav Baliram Hedgewar to acquaint the young generation about the life of such great heroes of the nation. |
