CISF rewards good work of Anjali, Samresh
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, August 11
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) was quick to reward its star shooters, Anjali Ved Bhagat and Samresh Jung, who shot to glory in the 17th Commonwealth Games at Manchester, when they were given out of turn promotions.

Inspector Anjali Ved Bhagat has been promoted to the rank of Assistant Commandant while Sub-Inspector Samresh Jung has been elevated to the rank of inspector.

With a haul of six gold and three silver medals, Anjali and Samresh Jung stole the limelight in the Commonwealth Games Shooting Championship. Anjali alone shot four golds and along with Jaspal Rana emerged as the two top gold winners for India.

CISF has been patiently nurturing its shooters, and the effort is now bearing rich fruits. The CISF shooting team of Anjali Ved Bhagat, Samresh Jung, Kuheli Ganguli and Sushma Rana have created a special niche for themselves in the national and international arena. The CISF shooters had an impressive haul of 13 medals, including five gold, four silver and four bronze medals in the Commonwealth Shooting Championship in England last year. Their tally rose to 22 medals (6 gold, 12 silver and 4 bronze) in the prestigious European Championship Circuit in 2002.

Consistently good performances in the ISSF World Cup 2002 Sydney and Atlanta circuits earlier this year made Anjali the first Indian small bore shooter ever to earn a quota place in the 2004 Olympic Games at Athens in the women’s air rifle category.

Director-general H. J. Dora had made cash grants to CISF shooters a few weeks back to enable them to procure world class shooting kits.
