Ludhiana, August 7
Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) has started taking in patients from the OPDs and clinics of its faculty. Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal of the DMCH, in a statement to the Press here today, said the faculty had made this possible.

All laboratory services are, now, available round-the-clock. Senior doctors, residents and nurses are on duty and taking care of the admitted patients. There were more visitors than yesterday in the OPDs today, 181 of which were treated and 116 were found to be new. “This shows that patients are returning to the DMCH,” said Dr Ahuja.

Warm welcome for lifter Batta
Iqbal Singh

Khanna, August 7
Vicky Batta, who won a silver and a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games in weightlifting, was received with great enthusiasm by city residents here today.

Batta was given a warm reception near the civil court complex where he reached with his father Ashwani Batta from New Delhi. He was welcomed to the rousing sounds and beats of dhol and bhangra.

Vicky Batta (21), a head constable in Punjab Police, won a silver and a bronze medal in weightlifting in the 56kg catagory. He lifted weight 135kg for his silver medal and won the overall bronze lifting 242.5kg. Barely 5ft tall, Batta draws inspiration from his fellow players, coach Mohan Singh and his parents.

The cold weather and the time difference at Manchestar were not conducive to his performing well there. But, he says, will try his best to win gold medal in the coming Asian Games at Busan.

Batta does not consider his lack of height an obstacle and said he was happy with the warm welcome accorded to him by the residents of the city.

His father Ashwani and mother Neelam were also present at the reception along with his coaches.

No civil officer nor any police officer was present at the occasion.
