‘Need to set Test match record straight’
Our Correspondent

SAS Nagar, August 6
“India has done well in one-day series but in Test matches played abroad their performance was not good enough and efforts are being made to improve this aspect”. Stating this here today, Yuvraj Singh, who will be a member of the Indian cricket team selected to play against Sri Lanka on September 12, could not spell out the reasons for the unsatisfactory performance of the team in Test matches. He said he had played only in one-day matches. The Indian team, he said, had to do well to go in for the World Cup.

Yuvraj Singh, who had come here to meet a family friend and also to seek the blessings of Brahm Giani Sant Baba Ajit Singh of Hansali, said he was a better batsman than a bowler and enjoyed playing against Australia the most. He gave all credit to his coach, Sukhwinder Bawa, and his parents for his achievements in the cricketing world. He said he liked batting in the fifth and sixth positions and considered the forth position as unlucky as he had not scored much in that position.

Yuvraj said he disagreed with the view that Indians were not doing well in sports in general. He said Indians had won 32 gold medals in the Commonwealth Games. However, sports facilities in the country were not up to the mark. He said sportspersons must be given more financial help so that they were not worried about their future. Foreign coaches were needed to train Indian sportspersons, he opined.
