Confusion over order to schools
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, July 29
Confusion prevails among students and teachers here following reports of a meeting of the Punjab Cabinet Committee held on Saturday in which it had been decided to close all schools till August 7 due to erratic power supply in the region. It was decided that if the schools remained closed, longer power cuts were possible in the region and power supply could be diverted to villages.

However, no such notification has been received either by the Deputy Commissioner or the District Education Officer and no directions have been sent to schools. As a result, several school authorities have decided to keep the schools open tomorrow. Ms Neena Khanna, Principal, Kundan Vidya Mandir, said she had not received any written communication from the district authorities and had decided to keep the school open tomorrow.

A thought-provoking play
Tribune News Service

Ludhiana, July 29
Watching ‘Tain Ki Dard Na Aaya’, a play by Samuel John, is enough to make one believe that love for mankind is the biggest religion on earth and hatred on the basis of religion the greatest curse.

A powerful and thought-provoking play, that was staged at Nehru Sidhant Kendra here last evening, left viewers intensely moved for the victims of Gujarat riots who were killed or injured in the communal violence in the state recently.

The script of the play was written by playwright Balram.

The play is a rude picture of the politicisation of religion, biases of the police and dirty politics that came out during the Gujarat riots.

The role of Pargat Singh as Swami, who dreamt of a Hindu-dominated nation, was appreciated by the audience.
