High Court admits Sukh Ram’s appeal
New Delhi, July 22
The Delhi High Court today admitted an appeal by former Communications Minister Sukh Ram against the CBI designated court’s order that sentenced him to three years’ rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2 lakh on him in a corruption case. Mr Justice M.A. Khan issued a notice, returnable on July 25, to the CBI on the petition seeking the suspension of the sentence and grant of regular bail. The judge also called for the requisite records from the trial court. Now petitions of all three co-accused in the case — Sukh Ram, former Communication Department Director (Finance and Accounts) Runu Ghosh and former Managing Director of Hyderabad-based Advance Radio Masts Ltd Pataru Rama Rao — will be heard together on July 25. On July 5, Special Judge V.K. Jain had sentenced Sukh Ram to three years’ RI and fined him Rs 2 lakh for causing a loss of Rs 1.66 crore to the government in awarding a telecom contract to a private firm. UNI
