Amita Rani excels in shooting meet

Ludhiana, July 22
Shooters from Master Tara Singh Memorial College and St Thomas Senior Secondary School reigned supreme by clinching seven medals each in the XIth Ludhiana District Shooting Championship organised by the Ludhiana District Rifle Association which concluded at Kundan Vidya Mandir School, Civil Lines, here yesterday. Master Tara Singh College shooters bagged four gold, one silver and two bronze medals while St Thomas School’s tally included three gold, two silver and two bronze.

Amita Rani of Master Tara Singh College was at the centre stage today. In open sight air rifle event, Amita collected 270 out of 400 points to win a gold and in air rifle peep sight event, she, with 293 points, finished ahead of others to lift the gold. She was also the member of the Master Tara Singh College team, others members being Manmeet Kaur and Shelly, which won a gold in open sight air rifle event for junior women.

In the open sight air rifle event, Gaurav Singla in the junior men’s section and Samheet Kaur in the junior women’s section, both of St Thomas Senior Secondary School who had established lead over their rivals, were declared winners. In the open sight air rifle (junior men), team of Gaurav Singla, Ashish Deepak and Gursimar Singh won the gold.

Mr Nahar Singh Gill, Mayor of Ludhiana distributed the prizes.
