200 units collected at PNB blood donation camps

New Delhi, July 19
Mr S.S. Kohli, Chairman and Director, Punjab National Bank (PNB), inaugurated the blood donation camps organised by the bank at its head office on July 18 and 19. Employees of the bank voluntarily donated over 200 units of blood. The camps were organised in association with the Red Cross Society.

Mr Kohli, while inaugurating the blood donation camp, informed that as a responsible corporate citizen the bank continuously involved itself in various community-based programmes throughout the country, like organising sapling plantation camps for preservation of environment, medical check-up and blood donation camps for improving the health of fellow citizens, career and guidance camps, putting up tree guards for protecting the tender future essence of life etc.

During the last financial year, the bank organised 151 programmes under social banking, including 53 medical check-up camps and 13 blood donation camps.

Donations to the tune of Rs 1.45 crore were made by the bank to various societies, charitable institutions and organisations working for the benefit of the downtrodden and weaker sections of society. Donations were also given to institutions involved in sports and cultural activities.

The bank also donated a computerised Braille Production Unit for the benefit of more than 350 blind children to the National Association for the Blind, Delhi.

Under 'Adopt a Gran' scheme of HelpAge India, the bank has again supported 30 economically and socially deprived older persons to live a life of dignity and self-esteem by contributing Rs 1.44 lakh. The bank contributed Rs 80 lakh for the PNB Centenary Rural Development Trust.

The bank has also established the PNB Hockey Academy with the aim to encourage talented youngsters to become quality players without sacrificing their educational careers.

Hemant stars in Ravindera School’s victory

An all-round performance by Hemant Singh (2 for 14 and 66 not out) and deadly bowling by Vipul Gupta (4 for 33) helped Ravindera Public School defeat Poorvi Delhi Club by nine wickets in a league match of the first Shiv Narain Khinchi Memorial Under-15 Cricket Tournament at the Tyagi Public School ground.

Scores: Poorvi Delhi Club: 106 all out in 21.2 overs (Chetan Bisth 43, Rachit Pathak 22, Vipul Gupta 4 for 33, Hemant Singh 2 for 14).

Ravindera Public School: 107 for 1 in 15.5 overs (Hemant Singh 66 n o, 8x4, 2x6; Jatin Paul 26 n o).

Amit Ghuman shines

A brilliant knock of 56 by Amit Ghuman and a 3 for 37 bowling spell by Amit Kumar helped Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji Academy (Senior) beat Maharaja Ranjit Singh Ji Academy (Junior) by 59 runs in a limited-over match at the Guru Harkishan Public School ground, Vasant Vihar.

Amit Ghuman’s 56 run were full of fiery shots.

Scores: Maharaja Ranjit Singh (Senior): 182 all out in 29.5 overs (Amit Ghuman 56, Harpreet Singh 3 for 23, Lakshman 2 for 23).

Maharaja Ranjit Singh (Junior): 123 all out in 25.5 overs (Rohan 31, Sorin Dhaka 29, Amit Kumar 3 for 37, Parteek Jain 2 for 23).

A record number of 1150 players will compete in the 30th Smt. Chandravati Bhatnagar Manav Sthali Open Table Tennis Tournament, which was inaugurated at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium by Mr Shashi Kant Mehrotra, deputy commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, in the Capital on Friday.

The tournament introduced competitions in the four plus, five plus and six plus categories to give a platform for the young talent to flourish. The other categories are tiny-tots, cadet, sub-juniors, boys and girls singles, midget and blossoms.

Results: Blossom Category (below four years): Arjun Verma (Manav Sthali School) beat Arshit Bhalla (Convent of Rani Jhansi) 11-5,11-8; Arshdeep Singh (Manav Sthali) beat Mudit Kumar (Nav Manav) 11-5,11-6; Supriya Kapoor (CRJ) beat Chandeesh Sehgal (Nav Manav) 11-3,11-8.

Scores: Blue Star Club: 89 all out in 27.2 overs (Sachin Singh 28, Mohit Batra 5 for 20, Pawan Chauhan 2 for 25). Hasan, Naveen excel

Hasan Ahmed hit a smashing 80 and Naveen Kumar claimed 5 for 40 to excel in Madhu Vihar Cricket Club’s 30-run victory against Shalimar Club in the Triangular Cricket Series at the Patparganj ground in the Capital.
