Summer season zonal tourney

Ludhiana, July 19
The Ludhiana District Schools Tournament Committee has decided to organise the Summer Season Zonal Tournament for senior, high and middle schools from August 5 to 10. Players under-19, under-17 and under-14 age groups will take part in this tournament, according to Mr Bachhitar Singh, District Education Officer (secondary).

The ties for the tournament will be drawn at 10 am on August 2 at different zonal venues. The summary sheets and tournament fee can be deposited with zonal convenors on the same day and without these, teams will not be allowed to participate. For the first time, competition in the under-14 age group for middle school students, which was earlier conducted separately, would now be held along with this tournament for senior and high school.

Dr Sohal elected gen secy

Dr Kulwant Singh Sohal, a former national level hockey player, was unanimously elected the new general secretary of the Aryan Hockey Club during a meeting of the club held yesterday at Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana.

The meeting was chaired by the outgoing general secretary of the club, Mr Kulwant Singh Bopari.

It was resolved during the meeting that the club would organise a hockey tournament for Ludhiana Champions Trophy. Six major hockey outfits of the country would take part in this inaugural edition scheduled to be conducted later this year.

Prominent among others who attended this meeting were former Olympian Hardeep Singh Grewal, Gurpreet Singh, Manmohan Mishra, Harminderpal Singh Pappu, Gurbhej Singh, Satish Kumar, Dhanwant Singh, Parveen Kumar and Lakhwinder Singh Lakha.
