Swimming meet on July 27, 28

Chandigarh, July 19
The State Swimming Association, Chandigarh, will conduct a swimming meet at the Nursery Swimming Pool, Sector 23, here on July 27 and 28, according to a press release of the association.

The competitions will be held in six categories. Besides the senior group, there will be group I (for those born between 1984 and 86, group II (1987-88), group III (1989-90), group IV (1991-92), while group V will have those born in 1993 and after.

The meet will be conducted according to the rules of the Swimming Federation of India. Each participant would be able to participate in three events.

The entry forms are available with Mr Paramjit Singh and Ms Jasjeet Kaur, swimming coach at their coaching centres (Nursery Swimming Pool, Sector 23-C, and Yoga Centre Swimming Pool, Sector 23, Chandigarh).

All participants are requested to bring their birth certificates.

Coaching camp

After two days of trials 24 boys have been selected for 10-day coaching camp to be held at Cricket Stadium, Sector 16, according to a press note of the UT Cricket Association, Chandigarh. The selection committee comprising Yog Raj Singh, Rakesh Jolly, Baljeet Singh Bawa and Harish Sharma selected the following boys for the camp: Sunil Kumar, Sunny Kularia, Ankit Grover, Ashish, Karan Kherwal, Saurav Arora, Simran Brar, Sukhwinder Singh, Sachin Luthara (wk), Amit Arora (wk), Annurag Chopra, Varun Khanna, Sudhir, Harpreet Singh, Varun Sharma, Varun Rajput, Amit Kumar, Deepak Sharma, Harinder Dhaka, Pardip Sharma, Adit Partap, Mandip Virk, Lal Babu, Vikram Verma.

Adviser may stay despite promotion

Chandigarh, July 19
The Adviser to the Administrator, Ms Neeru Nanda, who is due to join the Government of India with her promotion due as Additional Secretary, may still have to continue with the Chandigarh Administration. Sources said the Administrator, Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd), would like Ms Nanda to continue in the present position despite her promotion as her stay here had been very short.

Ms Nanda joined as Adviser on January 12, 2001, in the Chandigarh Administration.

The Adviser’s post could be given to IAS officers of the rank of Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary, sources said.
