S. Narayan is new Finance Secretary
New Delhi, July 9
In a major reshuffle at the top echelons of the Finance Ministry, Revenue Secretary S. Narayan, the seniormost IAS officer in the ministry, was tonight appointed Finance Secretary and Economic Affairs Secretary while the portfolios of two Ministers of State were interchanged. Mr Gingee Ramachandran, who was holding the portfolio of Revenue, will now look after Banking, Insurance and Expenditure, official sources said, adding that Mr Anant Geete would now be in charge of Revenue. Mr Ajay Vikram Singh will replace Mr Narayan as Revenue Secretary. PTI

5 hizb ultras held
Moradabad (UP), July 9
Five Hizbul Mujahideen militants were arrested here and a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives was seized, the police said today. The militants, who had come to Moradabad to carry out some operation, were arrested following a specific information. PTI

Firing hired workers no retrenchment : SC
New Delhi, July 9 
The Supreme Court has held that disengagement of an employee hired on contractual terms does not amount to retrenchment and entitle him to any relief. Handing down the ruling here yesterday, Mr Justice D.P. Mohapatra and Mr Justice K.G. Balakrishnan said disengagement of employees appointed for a specific purpose and specific period did not amount to retrenchment within the meaning of Section 2 of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947.
