Lankan air force chief asked to quit
Colombo, July 1
Sri Lanka’s air force chief has been asked to quit or face an investigation into a traffic accident in which he allegedly injured a man, officials said yesterday. Air Marshal Jayalath Weerakkody has been told to step down or face an inquiry into the June 15 incident, Defence Ministry officials said. Air Marshal Weerakkody’s official limousine collided with a lorry early in the morning, seriously injuring a man in the truck. The air force chief was allegedly at the wheel at the time of the accident but is accused of blaming it on his driver, a fellow air force officer. AFP
