Govt ‘neglecting’ education facilities in Narnaul
Our Correspondent

Narnaul, July 1
The depleting subsoil water, scorching heat, broken roads and uncertainty in every walk of life have become the character of south Haryana. The sturdy and hard working people of the region have contributed a lot to the grain stocks of the state, even against the most adverse climatic conditions. However, Ahirwal and Mewat have remained neglected and even deprived of the basic necessities like water, education, health and communication facilities.

If one looks at the data on the development will reveal that all past governments that ruled the state had meted out step-motherly treatment to this region. In the field of education, the present government has withdrawn even the postgraduate classes from Narnaul, Mahendragarh and Gurgaon. The Department of Geography at Postgraduate Government College, Narnaul, could have been developed as a centre of excellence. However, the postgraduate classes in geography, which had been conducted for 26 years, were stopped abruptly allegedly on the direction of an officer.

A delegation of social workers along with the former president of the District Bar Association and former chairman of Zila Parishad, Mr Narender Singh Yadav, have apprised the Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, of the matter and urged him to continue the PG classes in Geography at Narnaul. The students and the parents are expecting a favourable order from the Department of Higher Education, Haryana.

The educational facilities, particularly technical education, in Mahendragarh district are few. Inquiries reveal that this is the only district in Haryana where there is no engineering college. Baba Kheta Nath Government Polytechnic College could be upgraded as an engineering college without spending a penny by the government.

The approval to set up an engineering college at Narnaul would boost the image of the present government. Restarting the postgraduate classes at Mahendragarh would also help the students of the region.
