Aaj De Bhagat Singh strikes a chord Chandigarh, June 30 Aaj De Bhagat Singh, as the play was entitled, was a virtual journey through the life of the legend, who sacrificed his life at the altar of freedom. The characteristic feature of the play was that he had not limited the character of Bhagat Singh. He allowed Bhagat Singh to assume a larger-than-life image and absorb all the youngsters into his mould. The director portrayed all young children in his script as martyrs in their own right. The emphasis of the play was on sacrifice for the cause of nation. The whole presentation served to sensitise the young ones by baring before them the priceless contribution of Shaheed Bhagat Singh. In fact, the theme of the play was selected in order to familiarise kids with great ideals of Bhagat Singh. By using the life of a martyr as a source of inspiration for kids who enacted the roles of Bhagat Singh, Sardar Gursharan Singh more than succeeded in his idea of building the character of kids and inspiring them to make sacrifices for the nation. In a perfect portrayal by children in the age group of 9 to 17 years, the theme of the presentation was brought home. The play also scored on the music front. Gursharan Singh was also assisted in direction by Mohinder Dogra and Kanchan. The function also featured another musical based on ‘Deepak’, a poem by Rabindra Nath Tagore. The play featured kids holding ‘diyas’ in their hands and pledging to sacrifice their lives at the altar of peace and freedom. Earlier, the show was set rolling by a welcome song prepared under the direction of Rashi Paliwal and Sangeeta. Haryanavi dance item directed by Nidhi Juneja and Rupinder Kaur, was also presented. Yet another enthralling presentation was a dance item on Pammi Bai’s number ‘Ni mai pani bharendiyaan’. The programme concluded with a drama-based item ‘Rangla Punjab’, directed by Sarabjeet Cheema. There was a separate art and craft corner featuring items prepared by students during the one-month long workshop. The show was structured under the guidance of Navdeep, Kavita, Sangeeta, Gurdeep and Anju. |
