“Dhvani”, an organisation devoted to art, culture and music, held a musical show ‘Dastak’. Welcoming the audience, Ms Ravneet Bhullar, organising secretary, said “Dhvani” had the energy of the youngsters and experience of the veterans who patronise the organisation. These include Surjit Patar, Prof N K Kalia, Dr Kanwal and Dr Kewal Dheer.

The programme started with a bhajan rendition of Tulsidas ‘Tum ko meri laaj’ was presented in ‘raag Patdeepak’. There were some emotional moments as the Chawla brothers, Mohit and Madhur, paid tributes to ‘Mother’ through an old film song “Aye Maa teri surat se alag Bhagwan ki surat kya hogi”. Ashima’s song “Yehi woh jagah hai, yehi woh fizaaen” generated nostalgia which was further deepened by Ravneet’s song ‘Rahein na rahein hum mehka karenge’. Chawla brothers mesmerised the audience with a duet based on rag Lalit. After this, Ravneet and Ashima captivated the audience with their duet ‘Tum ko piya dil diya kitne naaz se’.

Dhvani remembered Kaifi Azmi and Ashima sang his famous song ‘Waqt ne kiya kya hasin sitam’ “from Kagaz Ke Phool”. Prof N K Kalia spoke on the life and contribution of Kaifi Azmi to the world of literature. Prof Parihar rendered some of his selected couplets for the audience. Ravneet sang the song of Prof Mohan Singh ‘Bahuti beet gayee vadian te larian de naal’ and won acclaim of the audience. Prof Kanwal, in his distinct style, recited his couplets and drew applause for ‘Mehfil mein jab bi zikr tumhara karenge, log meri taraf zaroor ishara karenge’

In the session of ghazals, Randhir Kanwal sang ghazals of Hafiz Jalandhari, Mirza Ghalib and Rajesh Reddy and the programme reached its climax when he rendered the couplet ‘Mere dil ke kisi kone mein ik masoom sa bacha, baron ki dekh kar duniya bara hone se darta hai.’
