Sheethal Goutham annexes third title in a row
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, June 16
Sheethal Goutham, who is emerging as an “unbeatable”, pocketed her third title in the ITF Women’s Tennis Circuit Tournament when she beat her doubles partner.

Shruti Dhawan 6-4,6-0 in the singles final at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association court in the Capital.

It looked like a cakewalk victory for Sheetal Goutham when she led 5-1 in the first set, but Shruti Dhawan fought back to narrow her rival’s lead, and make it a close affair, before losing the set.

But the supremely confident Sheethal was unfazed by Shruti’s resurgence, and galloped to win the next seven games without much of an ado to canter away with the title. Sheethal had won the singles title in the first two legs at Chandigarh and Muzaffarnagar. Sheetal has so far amassed over a lakh of rupees as prize money from the circuit, but more than the money, what gave her satisfaction was the title. Though she had lifted two Masters titles before, it was for the first time that Sheethal was winning three singles titles in the ITF Circuit in a row.

The tall and powerfully built Shruti Dhawan had no answer to delicately angled volleyes and sliced returns of Sheethal, who showed nerves of steel to remain focussed even when Shruti made a brief resistance.
