Hockey tourney begins

Doraha, June 5
The Punjab State Junior Inter-district Hockey Championship was inaugurated at Guru Nanak Stadium of Guru Nanak National College, here today.

Mr Rajdeep Singh Gill, ADGP (PAP), inaugurated the championship. Mr Hardeep Singh Dhillon, DIG (Litigation), was present among the others.

Mr Devinder Singh Garcha, SSP, Khanna, welcomed the chief guest. Speaking on the occasion, Prof R.S. Pali, vice-president of the organising committee, said Mr M.S. Bhullar, DGP, would be the chief guest and Mr Tej Parkash, Transport Minister, the guest of honour on the final day ie. June 11 of the event.

A total of 11 teams from Ferozepore, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Faridkot, Moga, Ropar, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshehr, Ludhiana and Khanna are participating in the championship.

A cultural programme was organised before the inauguration.

Tourney concludes

The six-a-side cricket tournament organised by the local unit of the Bharat Vikas Parishad concluded at the grounds of the A S College for Girls, here on Sunday.

Eight teams participated in the tournament. In the final match, the Golden Club defeated the Royal Club by three wickets. Rinku of the Golden Club was declared “man of the tournament”, while Kapil of the same club was declared “best batsman” and Happy was declared “best bowler”.
