Chand Khanna eclipse Shastri Club, enter semis
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, June 3
Sumit Dogra played a fine all-round game to help Chand Khanna rout Lal Bahadur Shastri Club by 67 runs, and enter the semi-final of the 26th Lala Raghubir Singh Hot Weather Cricket Tournament at the Modern School ground, Barakhamba Road in the Capital on Monday. Sumit Dogra hit a quick 86 and then claimed three wickets to win the man of the match award.

In a match dominated by the bowlers, Lal Bahadur Shastri Club won the toss and put Chand Khanna into bat. It looked like an apt decision by the Shastri Club captain as off-spinner Kapil Mehta and left-arm spinner Rohit Mehra caught the Chand Khanna batsmen in a web of self-doubt, and wickets fell in quick succession to the spinners’ guiles.

But Sumit Dogra played a stone-walling knock of 86, studded with four fours and six sixes off just 81 balls to put the Chand Khanna Club on course to a decent total. He was given able support by Farman Ahmed, who hit a slam-bang 37 with five fours and one six off 33 balls. Chand Khanna posted a total of 209 all out in 39.4 overs.

It did not look a sound total, but the Chand Khanna bowlers unleashed their bag of tricks to dismiss Shastri Club for 142 in 38 overs. Medium-pacer Raja Sharma claimed the cream with a 3 for 33 haul. Sumit Dogra too scalped three major wickets for just 20 runs while Tony Singh took two for 28.

Sumit Dogra deservingly walked away with the man of the match award. Mr Balbir Sharma, bursar of Modern School, presented the Reebok man of the match award to Sumit Dogra.

Chand Khanna will clash against Oil and Natural Gas Commission in the semi-final on June 5.

Scores: Chand Khanna: 209 all out in 39.5 overs (Sumit Dogra 86, 4x4, 6x6, 81b; Farman Ahmed 37, 5x4, 1x6, 33b; Kapil Mehta 4 for 24; Rohit Mehra 3 for 28).

Lal Bahadur Shastri Club: 142 all out in 38 overs (Kapil Mehta 38, 3x4, 3x6; Tarun Gupta 34, 2x4; Rajan Gupta 23, 2x4; Raja Sharma 3 for 33; Sumit Dogra 3 for 20; Tony Singh 2 for 28).

Tuesday’s fixture: Indian Airlines vs SAIL; 7.45 am—Modern School ground.

Karthikeyan gets the winning Edge to keep time
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, June 3
The winning Edge is what defines a champion. The truism came alive at a function held in the Capital when Titan Industries presented the Titan Edge, its latest offering and the slimmest watch, to Narain Karthikeyan, India’s Formula One champion.

With a total slimness of just 3.5 mm and a wafer thin movement of 1.15 mm, the Titan Edge is the slimmest commercially available watch in the world. It was a perfect meeting of two Indians whose skills and precision and above all, quest for excellence, have helped them attain international fame and glory.

“We chose Narain Karthikeyan because of the synergies between what he stands for and what the Titan Edge is to us and the rest of India. Both have dared to do what no other Indian has done before,” said Bijou Kurien, chief Operating

Officer, Watches Division, Titan Industries Limited, while presenting the Titan Edge to Karthikeyan. “We hope that the Titan Edge will further inspire Narain Karthikeyan to achieve greater glory.”

Produced indigenously after four years of intensive research and development, the Titan Edge is a true technological marvel given the intricacies involved in producing a watch as slim and is the result of close collaboration between Titan’s Design Studio, the Production Department, and the R and D team. “The Titan Edge is a product that will give Titan Industries and India an enviable position in the global watch industry. I am privileged that Titan has chosen to honour me with the Titan Edge,” said Narain Karthikeyan.

The Titan Edge is a fully jewelled quartz analog movement with water resistance of upto 30 metres, a feature unheard of in slim watches. Some of the unique features of the Titan Edge include a state-of-the-art silicon chip that conserves power and doubles the life of the battery, a specially designed step motor and an amazing tolerance of Plus 3 microns in some movements (against usual tolerances of plus 20 microns) which demonstrates the extreme and exacting precision of the watch. Priced between Rs. 4495/- and Rs. 4995/-, the Titan Edge is available in 13 variants at the Titan showrooms across the country and select stores in the major metros.

The sophistication of the Titan Edge extends beyond the movement to the wedge profile of the case, the finely etched ceramic dials, the uniquely crafted skeletal hands, the elongated markings and the specially designed leather strap and buckle. The dials are plated in blue, silver, grey and champagne white while the leather straps are just 1.6 mm thick and in matt crocodile prints to rubberised finishes.
