Training course

Ludhiana, May 30
A five-day training course on “post-harvest management of summer vegetables and fruits” was organised for the home science teachers of krishi vigyan kendras of Punjab by the Department of Home Science Extension Education, College of Home Science, PAU, Ludhiana.

While inaugurating the course, Dr J.S. Kolar, Director of Extension Education, PAU, stressed upon the need for organising such courses so that the KVK staff got the timely exposure about the latest technology developed at PAU who, in turn, may disseminate this knowledge to their intended group.

Experts from the Department of Foods and Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, Business Management, Processing and Agricultural Structures, Central Institute of Post-Harvest and Engineering Technologies, Department of Horticulture, Punjab, and NABARD delivered lecturers on the handling of fruits and vegetables, low-cost storage structure for vegetables, processing of vegetables through dehydration and status of onion storage in India. Recent advances in methods of preservation, mushroom and grapes processing and interloaning through the credit system. Demonstrations on product development from mango, kinnow, grapes, tomatoes, instant spices and pickles were given by the experts.
