2 killed in police firing
Nasik, May 13
Two persons were killed, one of them in police firing, and five police personnel injured in communal violence set off by a dispute over a game of cards in tribal dominated Nandurbar town of north Maharashtra this morning, prompting the authorities to clamp curfew there. According to Special IG (Nasik) control room, trouble broke out last night in the Kali Kasjid locality near Chandsavli Darga in the town after an altercation between Bhimsingh Ratan Bhil and his friends Shiraddin Shaikh and Salaluddin Shaikh over a game of playing cards. Naik quits Cabinet
Panaji, May 13
Union Minister of State for Shipping Sripad Naik tonight resigned from the Vajpayee government to contest the May 30 Assembly elections in Goa. “I have faxed my resignation to the Prime Minister because it is the tradition of the party to quit the ministry when a person wants to contest an election,” Mr Naik told PTI.
