Farman Ahmed’s knock helps Chand Khanna win
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, May 10
Farman Ahmed blasted a brilliant 99 with eleven boundaries and three sixes off 78 balls to help Chand Khanna Cricket Club beat District Cricket Association, Faridabad by four wickets to enter the quarter-final of the 29th Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial Cricket Tournament at the Sant Harchand Singh Longowal Sports Complex, Khalsa College ground, in the Capital on Friday.

Farman Ahmed was adjudged the man of the match.

The Faridabad skipper won the toss and opted to bat. But after a good start, their run flow slowed when wickets were lost at regular intervals to make 187 for six in 40 overs.

The fine batting of Dharminder Phagne (33), Dhanraj Singh (51) and Guarav Sharma (24) and Rakesh Bhatia (29 retired hurt) was responsible for the Faridabad team attaining even such a modest total.

In fact, Rakesh Bhatia and Dhanraj Singh took the total from 73 for 3 to 131 when Rakesh Bhatia got hit on his forehead while trying to sweep Sumit Dogra.

With the exit of Bhatia, the Faridabad run flow faded into a trickle as the other batsmen just could not cope up with Chand Khanna’s bowling. Sumit Dogra bowled well to claim two important scalps.

Farman Ahmed played the sheet-anchor role as Chand Khanna replied, and they reached the winning target in 38.4 overs.

Farman Ahmed and Jaspreet Narula put on 116 runs for the opening wicket in 21.4 overs to give Chand Khanna a head start.

BCCIvice-president C.K.Khanna was the chief guest at the match. He was welcomed by organising secretary Virender Katyal. Chand Khanna will take on Collage Group in the quarter-final on May 18.

Coulthard vs Schumacher: A clash of the titans
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, May 10
In a clash of the titans, F-I Austrian Grand Prix hosts the battle royal over who controls the track as David Coulthard challenges Michael Schumacher once again. ESPN will bring the thrilling action on the track live from the AI Ring on May 12. David Coulthard, one of the jewels in the Formula One crown, was the hero of Austria’s A-I Ringh in 2001. His remarkable victory over Michael Schumacher and Rubens Barrichello proved that he was very much a contender for the top slot for that season. But the final honours evaded him as he managed to qualify for the seventh place with the never-say-die Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya of Williams occupying the top two grid positions. McLaren has proved rather strong at the A-I Ring, having won three of the five GPs here.

Coulthard holds the current lap record. Michael Schumachar is currently leading the points standings, having won four out of five Grand Prix this season. The Austrian Grand Prix is the only grand prix on the current calendar that Michael Schumacher hasn’t won-something he would definitely be looking to rectify this weekend.

Schumacher has won the driver’s title the past two years and has a total of four championships to his name. That puts him only one behind the all-time leader Juan Manuel Fangio’s five crowns. Schumacher would be looking to create history this season. Besides the main race, ESPN’s comprehensive coverage of F-I also includes the action of the qualifying race.

Harris in “one-on-one” with Raageshwari
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, May 10
New Zealand cricket all-rounder Chris Harris will have a tete-a-tete with Raageshwari in the “One-on-One” programme at TEN Sports on May 16 (Thursday) at 7.30 pm.

Raageshwari, in her usual bubbly self, uses her gift of the gab to the hilt to get the best out of one of the top all-rounders and New Zealand’s ace card, Chris Harris.

Chris, in the entertaining programme, reminisces how he would be beaten up by his brothers whenever he misfielded or dropped a catch; when his only job in the game was to field; and how that acted as a catalyst for him to become a perfect fielder.

Cricket fans can share Chris’ experiences of on and off the field events—the time when abusive Aussie fans turned to support him in his very first match; how he wished the earth would swallow him when he was hit for 30 runs in an over by Jayasuriya; how amazed he was at Indians’ knowledge of cricket; and how the Indian fans’ store of knowledge about him never ceases to surprise him.

The following episodes will see Raageshwari chat up with popular sports personalities like Baichung Bhutia, Clive Lloyd, Mike Gatting, Ian Healy, Rameez Raja, Arjuna Ranatunga and others. TEN Sports blends entertainment and sports together to give the viewers a taste of everything.
