Camp for mentally challenged kids

A camp for mentally challenged children and adults was organised at Shri Durga Mandir in Dugri Phase I here today.

According to a press note, a team of doctors headed by Dr Sukhmeet Singh Sethi, Dr Gurinder Pal Singh Sachdeva and Dr Sandeep Kumar Gupta examined over 100 mentally sick patients.

The facilities to the patients and doctors were provided by Mr Ramesh Garg, president and Mr Sushil Behal, general secretary of the Durga Mandir Committee. No consultation fee was charged from the patients.

DC reviews flood control measures

Mr Anurag Aggarwal, Deputy Commissioner has directed the officials concerned to chalk out plans for the flood protection to be carried out at vulnerable sites on the Dhusi bandh and many other places in the district. He has further asked for the estimates so that the required funds could be arranged in time.

These instructions were given by the Mr Aggarwal during his visit to the Dhusi bandh, along with the officials of the irrigation and drainage departments on Thursday. He visited all the vulnerable sites right from Dhulewal, near Machhiwara to Madhepur, near Sidhwan Bet, and discussed flood control measures with officials.

At Dhulewal, the Deputy Commissioner, listened to the problems of the people of the area and assured early action in all those cases. He issued instructions to officials of the drainage department to prepare estimates of work to be undertaken at identified places, including Dhulewal, Isapur, Milkowal, Ghumana, Mattewara, Jamalpur Laily, Kasabadh, seed farm, Khera Bet, Manewal, Talwandi, Rampur, Hoozra and Madhepur.

Stressing the need for desilting of the drains in the district, Mr Aggarwal asked the Drainage Department officials to prepare estimates and get the work done well before the onset of rains. According to an official of the Drainage Department, an estimated amount of Rs 1,955 lakh was needed for the cleaning of all the drains in the district.
