Admn files reply in ADAs’ appointment
Our Correspondent

Chandigarh, May 9
The UT Administration today filed a reply before the Central Administrative Tribunal in three petitions filed by advocates for quashing the appointment of nine Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) who were appointed in the District Courts by the Administration last year.

Meanwhile the CAT imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 on the ADAs who had failed to file replies before the court today and adjourned the case till May 27.

The three petitioners (advocates), Mr Manjit Kumar, Mr Hukam Singh, and Mr Rajesh, had filed petitions against the UT Administrator, the UT Home Secretary, the UT Legal Remembrancer and nine ADAs for quashing the selection and appointments.

The petitioners had alleged that these appointments were against the settled principles of law and the reservation policy.

Claiming that the Administration had adopted wrong procedure while making appointments, the petitioners alleged that the UT Home Secretary and the UT Legal Remembrance had made more appointments from the general category than what was advertised. They further said that proper representation was not given to the persons belonging to other backward classes. Therefore, the appointments should be declared null and void.

The petitioners pleaded for the issuance of direction to the UT Home Secretary and the Legal Remembrancer to reconsider and declare the results of the candidates belonging to OBC category against the posts meant for them as per advertisement.

The petitioners had claimed that the UT administration had not framed recruitment rules for the posts of ADAs. Where the Administration had not framed recruitment rules for any Group C and D posts, the Punjab recruitment rules should be made applicable, they pleaded.
