Ludhiana, April 12
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Aggarwal, today claimed that 10 times more wheat as compared to the last year has been procured till date in the district. Giving details of procurement, Mr Aggarwal stated that 7,788 metric tones (MT) of wheat had been procured in the district till date, whereas, last year it was only 775 MT till date.
Stating that it was 10 times more than that for the last year, Mr Aggarwal said that the Foodsup had purchased 1,500 MT of wheat, Markfed 1,310 MT, Punsup 1679 MT PSWC 782 MT, Punjab Agro 1,272 MT, FCI 757 MT, while various traders had purchased 488 MT. Lifting of the procured foodgrain was being done on day-to-day basis.
Giving the procurement details for the Asia’s biggest grain market Khanna, Capt Parveen Vij, District Food and Supplies Controller, Ludhiana, stated that in Khanna, till date 4,790 MT wheat had been purchased as compared to 665 MT of last year. This was seven times more than the last year.
Giving details of procurement by agencies he informed in Khanna that Food Supplies has purchased 1000 MT, Markfed 540 MT, Punsup1,255 MT, PSWC 387 MT, Punjab Agro 700 MT, FCI 600 MT and traders 314 MT.
After visiting grain markets at Jagraon and Mullanpur, the DC stated that the procurement was going on smoothly. He was accompanied by Mr J.P. Mittal, SDM, Jagraon, Capt Parveen Vij, DFSC, Ludhiana and Mr Ripin Kapur, DMO, Ludhiana. He held a meeting with the staff of the procurement agencies and directed that they should remain present in the mandis and should have sufficient quantity of bardana with them. He talked to the farmers present in these mandis and advised them that they should get fully ripe and dried wheat to the mandis. He said the farmers operating combine harvester during night hours shall be prosecuted under Section 144.
He also advised the farmers, who had spread their wheat in mandis, not to do so as they were causing inconvenience to other farmers by spreading wheat in mandi yards for drying purposes, thereby occupying five times more space than required. He talked to the arhtiyas and told them to advise then farmers connected with them to bring dried and clean wheat to the mandis. He checked the working of the power cleaners and also checked weight and cleanliness of the filled bags.
