In the backdrop of the forthcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir, ex-servicemen have sought a constitutional review of the existing provisions of voting rights for armed forces personnel. Colony resident hurt in attack

A resident of Bapu Dham Colony, Ram Pher, was injured after he was reportedly attacked with sharp edged weapons by several persons near the Sector 17-18 crossing late last evening. He has been admitted to the Sector 16 General Hospital.

Cash, gold stolen from Bartana house
Zirakpur, April 12
A sum of Rs 1. 43 lakh, 22 tola of gold, a cordless telephone and other valuables worth Rs 60,000 were stolen from the Har Milap Nagar residence of Mr Rajinder Kumar in Bartana today.

The Chandigarh Private Schools Association in a memorandum submitted to the UT Administrator Lieut-Gen J.F.R. Jacob (retd) yesterday demanded that resumption notices issued to private schools in residential areas be reviewed and the schools be allowed to function with certain restrictions.

Ravi Sidhu’s bail plea dismissed

A bail plea moved by Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) Chairman Ravinder Pal Singh Sidhu under the Arms Act was today dismissed by a local court. The accused was yesterday remanded to judicial custody till April 24 by the Magistrate in two different cases registered against him under the Excise Act and the Arms Act.

Modifications will cut cost of flyover by Rs 4 crore
Chandigarh, April 12
The cost of the proposed flyover to cross the transport area traffic lights will be reduced by about Rs 4 crore due to certain modifications suggested by the UT Engineering Department. The cost was expected to come down from Rs 16 crore to Rs 12 crore.
