Resume talks, USA tells India, Pak
New Delhi, April 10
The USA today asked the two countries to stop indulging in rhetoric and engage in a meaningful dialogue even as it decided to start a politico-military dialogue with New Delhi. “We are deeply concerned over the situation in the region and we have advised the two sides to moderate their rhetoric and begin dialogue.” US Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia Christina Rocca told reporters, winding up her two-day visit during which she held extensive discussions with External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Indian officials. 5 students hurt
Lucknow, April 10
At least five students were injured, one of them seriously, when the police opened fire on a group indulging in violence at Government Inter-College (GIC) at Raya in Mathura district today. According to a state Home Department official here, the police resorted to the firing when the students attacked a “flying squad” which had gone to the college where the UP Board examination were being held. 4 MCC ultras held
Ranchi, April 10
Four Maoist Communist Centre (MCC) ultras were arrested from Larbandhwar village under Patan police station in Jharkhand’s Palamau district today. A raid was conducted as a part of the search operation to recover the 10 wireless in loop line (WLL) telephone sets, looted by the MCC ultras from a few villages in the area. UNI

Train engine gutted
Lucknow, April 10
A diesel engine of the Barauni-bound Barauni Express caught fire soon after leaving the Lucknow station this evening. According to fire control room, the incident occurred when the train was crossing the Mohan Meakens bridge in the Daliganj area. UNI
