The documents revealed that he and his family members are in possession of 24 immovable properties located at Preet Vihar, Mall Road, Rohini, Dwarka, Chandni Chowk, Samaypur Badli in New Delhi, Kaushambi and Indira Puram in Ghaziabad, Noida, Greater Noida, Loni, Madurai, Vellore and Bangalore, etc. Besides, during the search at one of the flats in Rohini, an amount of Rs 12.70 lakh was recovered. CBI unearths textile scam in Gujarat New Delhi, April 10 The CBI conducted a surprise check on the office of the DGS&D, Ahmedabad, following the receipt of information that some officers had colluded with certain suppliers of cloth to the Gujarat Government to falsely certify sub-standard material as of quality grade. A comparison of the records seized by the CBI from the DGS&D Office and the samples of cut pieces recovered from some godowns of textile suppliers in Ahmedabad had prima facie revealed that no cut pieces certified by the DGS&D were available in the godowns or workshops. About 350,000 meters of sub-standard cloth was found in these premises and this belonged to a party other than to whom the contract was awarded. The sub-standard cloth was supplied as part of free school uniforms distributed by the Gujarat Government among students of Scheduled Castes and economically backward classes. The state government had in January, last year floated a tender for the supply of about 6.7 million meters of polyester blend shirting and 4.1 million meters of polyester blend suiting at a cost of about Rs 40 crore. In the notice inviting tender, it was specified that only textile manufacturers could participate in the tender. The quality control checks on the material supplied were to be carried out by the DGS&D or the Textile Committee of the Union Textile Ministry. It was alleged that the DGS&D, Ahmedabad, had generated false material inspection reports certifying substandard textiles to be of requisite standard.

BJP chief rules out Modi’s removal Kolkata, April 10 On the contrary, he said Mr Modi did whatever best was possible administratively for bringing back peace and normalcy in the state within shortest possible time. The BJP president was in the city yesterday to meet the state party leaders and workers and discuss about the forthcoming panchayat poll in the state and other related matters. Mr Krishnamurti alleged that the CPI (M) as well as the Congress by demanding Mr Modi’s removal had been trying to politicise the issue in their own interest. He regretted that even some NDA partners had also joined hands with the Opposition demanding Mr Modi’s ouster. But he ruled out any possibility of his removal, adding that there was no reason for that. The BJP president said it was unfortunate that riots had broken out in Gujarat as a sequel to the Godhra carnage but the BJP government in the state had been doing its best to bring back peace and normalcy in the state. Samata Party leader, and Minister of Sate for Railways Digvijaya Singh, whose party demanded with Ms Mamata Banerjee Mr Modi’s removal from the Chief Minister’s post, met Ms Banerjee yesterday at TMC’s party office in south Kolkata and held a close-door meeting for half an hour. |
Playing politics, even in posting of cops Ahmedabad, April 10 Despite the state being a communal time bomb always ready to blow up on the face of the administration, the state government has made no attempt to ensure proportionate representation of minorities in the police force. The allegations of saffronised police outfit in Gujarat seem to be correct with the state government having its way in systematically sidelining senior and experienced police personnel belonging to the minority community. An analysis of the postings of the top police brass indicates that not even a single top police official belonging to the minority community has a field posting. According to analysts here, sidelining minority community officers has been an unwritten rule since 1995 when the BJP government first came to power. Although some of the IPS officers belonging to the minority community were given promotions by the BJP dispensation, yet they were given only peripheral postings, they said. Not more than 2 per cent of the lower rank policemen belong to the minority community. The few senior police officials from the minority community that Gujarat has are sitting on the sidelines. A veteran in the Gujarat force, Mr S.F. Khandwawala, has been posted Additional Director-General of Police (Training). But ironically, Inspector-General of Police A.I. Saiyad, who was Principal, Police Training Academy near Gandhinagar, is now in charge of modernisation, which obviously includes police reforms. While IGP M.O. Khimani is Head, Human Rights and Social Welfare, IGP Fazal Guard heads the Gujarat Police Housing Board. DCP Samiullah Ansari has been posted Head, Traffic (Ahmedabad), while Commandant Khurshid Alam and Commandant K. Anarwala are posted with the state Reserve Police. |
