Shopkeepers of Phase V here today prevented the Municipal Council enforcement staff from taking away goods lying unauthorisedly outside their shops.

The protesting shopkeepers blocked a council truck in which the seized goods, mostly bicycles, had been loaded. They demanded that proper receipt should be issued for the goods seized.

The protest ended when the Additional Executive Officer council reached the scene and directed that receipts be issued to the shopkeepers concerned. The protesters alleged that the council had adopted a “pick-and-choose” approach while carrying their anti-encroachment drive.
