BCA students seek more grace marks
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, April 9
Resentment prevails among the students of BCA fifth semester of local colleges over the result declared by Punjab Technical University last week in which a majority of the students have been declared unsuccessful in the C++ examination.

The students, who are now in their sixth semester, have said the paper held in December was partially out of syllabus and based on an entirely different pattern as compared to previous years. The students said at that time they had sent their complaint to the PTU demanding at least 15 grace marks.

The students said they were optimistic that by seeking grace marks they would be able to pass the examination, However, to their surprise when the result was declared just three to four grace marks were awarded. The students who have flunked the exam said they would now again have to appear in supplementary examination which would be held sometime in May and the result would not be declared before July. In this way, they would not be able to appear for the entrance test for MCA to be held in June and would lose one academic year, said the students.

The students said if they had been awarded some more grace marks, over 70 per cent of the failing students would pass the exam and be eligible to appear for entrance tests to higher classes. The students said they had already represented their case to the university authorities and were waiting for a response.

Mr K.S. Kler, OSD, Examination, said he had received the representation of students which was already under consideration. He said the matter was being looked into carefully and if possible, the students might be given more grace marks. He said in similar cases, the university had given 28 grace marks to students of pharmacy and 15 to those from engineering colleges.

Heart institute condemns DMCH union’s act
Our Correspondent

Ludhiana, April 9
The Management of Hero DMC Heart Institute (HDHI) has expressed surprise over the way the members of the employees union of the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) forcibly took out a number of people from the heart institute yesterday.

Dr G.S.Wander, Chief Cardiologist, in a statement today alleged that the union members tried to disrupt the services of heart institute, where many critical heart patients were under treatment. The management of HDHI emphasised that heart institute was a different entity and separate from the DMCH.

Dr Wander said that in a meeting organised between the management and union leaders on April 5, the management had said that they would look into the matter on April 11 and even the union had assured to wait till that day. But despite this, the union leaders created disturbance yesterday.

Dr Wander said that the union wanted to call Mr Brij Mohan Munjal, president, managing society, DMCH, on April 8. ‘‘Instead of doing this peacefully, Mr Chander Mohan Kalia, president and Ms Navraj Kaur, general secretary of the union, without caring for extremely sick patients admitted in the hospital, started taking out the GDAs and housemen from the heart institute.”
