Conference on preventive medicine

Ludhiana, April 7
A two-day long Vth Annual North Zone Conference of the Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine, organised by the department of Community Medicine of Dayanand Medical College and Hospital was inaugurated by Mr Prem Nath Gupta, Secretary Managing Society of DMCH in the Dumra auditorium last evening.

Dr S.C. Ahuja, Principal, DMCH, in a press statement today said that around 100 delegates from North attended.

Dr V. Mohan, Professor head of Department, Community Medicine, said that the conference was specially kept on April 7, as the day was celebrated worldwide as World Health Day. He said, “The theme is, ‘Move for Health’ which means to promote mental and physical activity for good health and WHO has also kept the same theme for the year 2002.”

The first talk in the first session was delivered on the topic ‘Spirituality and Healing - The forgotten dimension of Health.’

Dr Megha Sood, Dr GPI Singh, Dr V. Mohan, Dr R.K. Soni, Department of Community Medicine, DMCH, presented a paper on ‘Nutritional Status of 5-14 year-old children in urban resettlement colonies in Ludhiana.’ Dr Bhupinder Singh from Jammu read a paper on ‘Prevention of War Injuries’. Dr Anurag Choudhry talked on ‘Microplanning for Mop-Up operations.’

Other doctors who presented their papers were Dr Kamaljeet, Dr A. Benjamin, Dr Samita Sharma, Dr B.P. Gupta and Dr S. Goel, Dr Sonia, Dr Paramjit Kaur and A.S. sekhon from Government Medical College, Patiala, talked about, ‘KAP Study regarding RCH in adolescent girls in Punjab.

DC visits polio campaign camp

Ludhiana, April 7
The Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Aggarwal, yesterday monitored the mop up polio campaign in slums and difficult areas of the city along with Dr J.G. Vohra, WHO Surveillance Officer.

He interacted with various sections of society regarding mop up polio campaign and assessed the quality of services being provided. He observed the teams giving polio drops to the children and appreciated the efforts put in by Health Department and others in making Ludhiana polio free.

The next round of mop up polio campaign will be organised from May 7 to May 11, according to a press statement.
