At 3, he had to face music

BORN on July 30, 1973 at Faridabad, Haryana, Sonu Nigam is among the few singers who have made it big both in the film music industry as well as in the Indipop circle. Father Agam Kumar's enthusiasm for music was passed on to Sonu and he soon began training under him. He was just three when he first made his debut public performance and sang the Mohammad Rafi's song 'Kya hua tera vaada' from film 'Hum kisi se kam nahin'. Sonu made his way to Mumbai where he was barely 18 years old. The first song that he recorded was for the film Aaja Meri Jaan. Unfortunately for Sonu, S. P. Balasubramaniam dubbed the song. However, Gulshan Kumar heard Sonu and summoned him. And then began his long association with the music company, T-Series. The song that catapulted him to fame was Achha sila diya tune mere pyaar ka from the film 'Bewafa Sanam'. Today, every third song recorded for movie is sung by Sonu Nigam. Apart from film and pop album offers, he is the anchor for musical shows like Sa Re Ga Ma and Kisme Kitna Hai Dum
