The state secretariat of the CPM has described the state Budget presented in the Vidhan Sabha on Wednesday as directionless and disappointing. The party said that the Budget had failed to identify the basic problems afflicting the state which obviously reflected the lack of political will of the government.

Eight lakh job-seekers in Capital
New Delhi, March 14
The Minister of State for Labour, Mr Muni Lall, informed the Rajya Sabha today that the total number of job-seekers, all of whom were not necessarily unemployed, on the Live Register of Employment Exchange in the country as on December 1999 stood at 403.7 lakh. 

A stranded commuter For the second day today, more than 50, 000 autos and taxis remained off the road to protest against the Delhi government’s decision to install tamper-proof electronic meters to prevent fleecing of passengers. The situation at the exit and entry points in the Capital was slightly better today as the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Corporation (DTTC) pressed additional buses into service. However, it was still chaotic at the airport, the railway stations and the bus terminuses as passengers, specially those with luggage, had to wait for long periods before they could find alternative transportation to take them to their destinations. 
Meanwhile, the confusion over the duration of the strike persisted with several unions claiming that it was only for two days while the others maintained that it was indefinite. Murder accused allowed to take exams
Sonepat, March 14
All the five accused arrested in connection with the alleged murder of a 17-year-old Vipin, son of a trader, Mr Rameshwar Dass Bansal, were allowed to sit in the annual examinations, beginning here from today, by the Chief Judicial magistrate, Ms Ritu Tagore.

B.Ed. girl ends life in classroom
New Delhi
A 22-year-old woman Supreet Kaur, doing her training in Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself inside the classroom of the Institute of Higher Education this afternoon. Supreet, resident of Mukherji Nagar, joined the institute last year.

Principal, staff held in exam leak case
New Delhi, March 13
The Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police has raided Himalayan Public Senior Secondary School, Rohini, and arrested the principal and two teachers of the school for allegedly leaking out the Mathematics question papers for Class X CBSE examinations.

Delhi transporters allege harassment by Rajasthan taxmen
New Delhi, March 14
The Delhi Transporters Association has urged the Rajasthan Government to amend Section 78 of the state Sales Tax Act, as it is being used to harass transporters, which is causing undue delay in the transportation of goods and mental agony.
