India out to improve its dismal record at Faridabad Rohtak, March 6 The process of transforming this ground into an international stadium started when the then Chief Minister of Haryana, Mr Bansi Lal, laid its foundation stone on 14th September 1986. The stadium got its present name after the great freedom fighter from Haryana- Nahar Singh. Besides five one-day internationals, Nahar Singh Stadium has hosted several first class matches involving visiting teams from Pakistan, New Zealand and England. The visitors from abroad played three-day matches here. In domestic cricket, several vital matches of Deodhar Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Ranji Trophy and Irani Cup have been organised
here. The stumps were pitched on the Nahar Singh Stadium for the first international tie in 1987-88 when India played hosts to West Indies. The visitors emerged victorious. The stadium has also served as neutral venue of the Australia versus South Africa one-dayer played in 1996-97 for the Titan Cup. Out of the five matches played so far on this ground, West Indies and South Africa have won two matches each whereas India, who lost three out of the four matches played at Faridabad, tasted it’s only success when it played against Zimbabwe a decade ago in 1992-93.
