Biennial RS poll on March 27
New Delhi, February 26
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to hold biennial elections for Rajya Sabha on March 27 to fill 59 seats from 17 states following the retirement of members in the next three months. While 22 members from Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal would be retiring on April 2, 35 others from Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan will demit their office on April 9. The notifications will be issued on March 7 and last date for making nominations will be March 14.
