Punjab cops hog limelight Chandigarh, February 25 Punjab team won its both the league matches, thanks to fine performance by Ashish Kapoor, S.M. Sharma and Yurinder Singh who were instrumental in beating their opponents Karnataka as well as Maharashtra, Chandigarh lost thrice once from Andhra Pradesh, then to the CRPF team and third time from Haryana. Kabaddi team The District Circle Kabaddi Association, Panchkula, has selected an 12-member kabaddi team which will take part in the Haryana State Circle Kabaddi Championship to be held at RKSD College, Kaithal, from February 27 to March 1.This was stated by Mr Raj Kumar Dahiya, secretary of the association. The team is : Pardeep Kumar, Rishi Pal, Ranbir Singh, Udham Singh, Anil Kumar, Ashok Kumar, Bahadur Singh, Sher Singh, Raj Kumar, Nachhatar Singh, Karam Chand and Rajinder Singh. Selection trials The selection trials to select the Chandigarh junior and senior fencing teams for its participation in the junior and senior national meet at various places will be held on February 27 at 3 pm in the St Stephen's School, Sector 45. The junior national meet (under-18 ) meet would be held at Patiala from March 1 to 3, while the senior National Fencing Championship would be held at Pune from March 9 to 12. Shooting meet The 26th Northern India Shooting Championship began here today at the Patiali ki Rao Shooting Ranges, Sector 25, Chandigarh, by the Zonal Rifle Shooting Academy under the auspices of the National Rifle Association of India. Earlier, Col Jaswant Singh inaugurated the meet while it was presided over by Mr D.K. Shukla, secretary, NRAI. In the today's matches, Amanpreet of Punjab shot 568/600 in the air pistol ISSF senior men civilian and junior men section. In other matches of the day, Surinder Pal of Punjab was leading in air rifle OS-NR with score of 330/400. In air pistol NR-SR, men civilian section, Lokesh Shukla with score of 346/400 was in lead. Nanki Singh of Chandigarh was leading in the air pistol north-sub junior women section with score of 305/400. Carrom trials The Central Civil Services Regional Board for Culture and Sports , UT, will hold the trials to select the UT carrom team at the Survey of India, Sector 32, at 9.30 am on March 1 for the All-India Civil Services Carrom Meet to be held at Pondicherry from March 17 to March 22,
according to Mr M.P. Singh secretary of the regional board. |

committees Chandigarh, February 25 Political parties had been given representation according to their strength in the House and capability of individual members, Ms Joshi told Chandigarh Tribune here today. Each committee would have three members from the Congress, two from the Opposition and two from amongst nine nominated members, she said. Each of the Congressmen had been kept in four committees, nominated member in three committees while those from the Opposition in two committee, but it could change in certain cases, she said. In the controversial House Tax Assessment Committee, most of the member are either from the nominated or opposition groups with only two members from the Congress, apparently to prevent drawing flak for recommending changes in the tax structure. There are certain committees where only two Congressmen had been given place to accommodate those from the Opposition and the group of nominated members. The committees would now be notified and elections to the posts of their chairmen and vice-chairmen would be held as per the procedure laid down in the Act, she said. Ms Joshi said all committees were equally important for proper development and care of the city. Members of various committees are:

Morni Panchkula, February 25 Stating this here today, the Deputy
Commissioner, Ms Jyoti Arora, said that these devices would be provided to the consumers on payment of Rs 1,988 against the actual cost of Rs 10, 975, with financial assistance from the Government of India and Shivalik Development Board. She said that after observing the system’s satisfactory performance and raising demand from consumers, the government had decided to provide the above devices. Ms Arora said that other than this, a sum of Rs 1.48 crore would be spent for the electrification of 20 dhanis, hamlets of Bhoj Plasra, Niata, Dharti, Kudana, Tajpura, Naggal and Tipra by the Shivalik Development Board. She said that 56 SPV domestic lights will also be provided under Integrated Rural Energy Programme in Raipur Rani and Pinjore blocks at subsidised rates of Rs 3,488 per system. |
