Tremors felt on Haryana border
New Delhi, February 23
A slight intensity earthquake was felt in Haryana-Uttar Pradesh border areas at 1.55 pm today, according to the Meteorological Department here. The quake measured 2.8 on the Richter scale, it said. PTI

25 feared drowned
Hajipur, February 23
An overloaded boat today capsized in the Ganga near Pahleja-Barka ghat in Saran district, and the police says 25 passengers may have drowned. One body has been recovered so far while search for others was continuing, the police added. UNI

Customs official held
Chandigarh, February 23
The CBI today arrested the Deputy Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, Mr Amrish Jain, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Mr Jain was posted at the Customs freight station, Ludhiana. TNS

Man kills five
Jhansi (UP), February 23
A man, in an inebriated state, killed five persons, including two women, at Mailwara village of the district last night, the police said here today. The accused, under the influence of ‘ganja’, hit them with lathis resulting in their death. PTI

Police firing
Gandhinagar, February 23
A person was killed and three others injured when the police opened fire at Tankaria village in Bharuch district of Gujarat today as an angry group of villagers assaulted them during a probe into an incident of alleged cow slaughter. UNI
