IAF down ND Heroes in DSA League
Our Sports Reporter

New Delhi, February 17
Former league champions Indian Air Force, New Delhi downed Sivananda-New Delhi Heroes 2-0 in a Group A Super League match of the Delhi Soccer Association (DSA)-SAIL

Senior Division Football League Championship at the Ambedkar Stadium in the Capital on Sunday. The victory gave Air Force three full points.

Delhi Soccer Association president Umesh Sood inaugurated the championship.

The Air Force-Heroes match lacked punch and verve as it was devoid of good moves. Most of the threatening raids were carried out in the first half, and Air Force took the lead in the 39th minute, a minute before half time, when inside-right Priya Darshan put the ball in after a goalmouth melee generated by a flag-kick.

The second half was also bereft of any thrill, but Air Force nevertheless managed to score their second goal when striker Kalyan Pal’s top-of-the box attempt found its way into the goal.

Earlier, former league champions Nivia-Mughals were held to a goalless draw by Delhi Police in a Group A Super League match to share points. Both the teams wasted goal-bearing moves as Mughal’s Sunil Kumar muffed a good cross from Rajesh Arya while Police’s Mahesh Bisht, Jagya

Ram Boro and Mutalif missed easy chances.

Monday’s fixtures: Indian Nationals vs Frontiers (1 p m); City Club vs Garhwal Heroes (3 pm)—Ambedkar Stadium.
