Cold wave continues in Rajasthan

Cold wave conditions continue to prevail in parts of Rajasthan. They are likely to continue and extend to more parts of the region.

Rainfall: Rain or snow has occurred at a few places in Himachal Pradesh and at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir and Uttaranchal. Rain or thundershowers have occurred at many places in east Uttar Pradesh. Weather was mainly dry in the rest of the region. The chief amounts of precipitation in cms are: Himachal Pradesh: Bhuntar, Kangra and Shimla 1 each, Uttar Pradesh: Allahabad and Varanasi AP 1 each. Snowfall report (cms): Himachal Pradesh: Dhundi 12, Bhang 11, Solangnala 6 and Patsio 2.

Temperatures: Past 24 hours’ change: Minimum temperatures rose in Uttaranchal and changed little elsewhere.

Departures: They were markedly above normal in east Uttar Pradesh, above normal in Uttaranchal, below normal in Punjab and west Rajasthan and normal in the rest of the region. The lowest temperature in the plains was 2.3°C recorded at Pilani (Rajasthan).

Forecast valid until the morning of January 22, 2002: Rain or snow is likely at a few places in Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal and at isolated places in Jammu and Kashmir. Rain or thundershowers will occur at many places in east Uttar Pradesh and at a few places in west Uttar Pradesh. Weather will be mainly dry in the rest of the region.

Forecast for Delhi and neighbourhood valid until the morning of January 22, 2002: Mainly clear sky. Mist/fog in the morning. Chilly winds during day time. Fall in minimum temperature will be around 5°C.

Outlook for the subsequent two days: No large change.
