NDMC throws morning ragas into the garbage bin

It appears to be a case of misplaced priorities. Otherwise, there is no reason why stinking garbage should take precedence over soothing morning ragas. In an apparent sign of wilting under political exigencies, the NDMC has discontinued the monthly morning raga programme, conducted by classical maestros, on the ground that it is “elitist”.

Police launch SMS for enquiries

New Delhi, January 4
The Delhi Police have announced a New Year bonanza for the public to ease their mode of queries with the police. From today, the mobile phone users can send Short Message Services to the police to verify or inquire about stolen vehicles, unclaimed vehicles, vehicle ownership details, passport verification, stolen arms and the Delhi Police telephone number enquiry.

Three sadhus die in jeep mishap
Sonepat, January 4
Three sadhus were reportedly killed when a jeep carrying them fell into a canal near Nuran Khera village, about 50 km from here, last night.
According to a report reaching here, the jeep belonged to Baba Kamlesh Giri who was travelling along with his eight of his followers from Kiloi village to Ganga Tehri village in Jind district.

Teachers suspend strike till Jan 8
New Delhi, January 4
The schoolteachers of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, who had been on a strike for the past 20 days, today decided to suspend their strike till January 8 following an assurance from the former Delhi Chief Minister and sitting MP from Outer Delhi, Mr Sahib Singh Verma, that the Union Cabinet would take a “favourable decision.”

Neelam stole the show, scoring eight goals, including a hattrick, as Mother Khazani Convent School, Mungeshpur (Delhi) drowned Government Higher Secondary School, Saitual (Mizoram) in a shower of goals to record a mammoth 11-0 victory in the eighth Nehru-NDMC Girls Hockey Tournament at the Shivaji Stadium in the Capital on Friday.

Five countries for Asia-Oceania Korfball
New Delhi, January 4
Five countries will take part in the fifth Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship to be held at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium from February 13 to 16.
Korfball Federation of India president M C Gupta said in the Capital on Friday that Australia, Japan, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong and hosts India will participate in the championship.

National Shooting at Indore

The National Shooting championships will be held at the Central School of Weapons and Tactics, Reoti Ranges, Bijasan Road, Indore from January 7 to 19. Twenty-seven teams from all over the country will participate in the championship.
